An augmentation mammoplasty is the medical term for a breast augmentation. A breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that uses breast implants as a means to increase the size of the breasts. Many women choose to have a breast augmentation to restore volume to their breasts following significant weight loss and/or pregnancy. An augmentation can also be used to improve the symmetry of uneven breasts. In addition, breast implants are frequently used to reconstruct the breasts following a mastectomy or injury. Types of Breast Implants Available in Miami There are two types of breast implants that Dr. Sam Gershenbaum uses at his practice in Miami; saline and form-stable silicone (aka Gummy Bear Implants). Saline Implants A saline implant consists of an outer silicone shell and sterile saltwater (i.e., saline).
