​The idea of getting a scholarship is the dream of many students and their families. Unlike loans, scholarships do not have to be repaid. Scholarships are grants to help to pay for college. Independent of which of the seven public 4-year state universities or nineteen accredited private four-year colleges you may choose to attend, the following are magnificent scholarships that are created to provide financial aid to Oregon residents and students alike. 1.American Legion Auxiliary Department Scholarship Provided by the American Legion Auxiliary for Oregon residents who are either the children or wives of disabled veterans in the Armed Forces. The scholarship of $1000 is given for either business or vocational school to three students. Please note than an American Legion Auxiliary Unit must sponsor the applicant to be considered and entered for the scholarship. Applicants must create a 90-second video in which they make evident why the organization aids people in becoming smart consumers. Students can renew the scholarship up to four years provided they maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher. If selected, recipients will be required to participate in all related publicity and share their story at the Beat the Odds award events. Singer Scholarship The Oregon Student Assistance Commission offers the Bertha P. Singer Nurses Scholarship for up to $1,000, which is renewable to students who are pursuing a nursing degree in Oregon. Singer Scholarship here. 6.Beverley Swaim Staley Leadership Legacy Scholarship With the goal to build the transportation industry through the global advancement of women, the WTS Foundation launched the Leadership Legacy Scholarship to encourage women to further their careers as leaders in transportation. It provides annually $3,500 to women who can demonstrate leadership in the industry to bring ideas, innovation, and new approaches to the transportation challenges faced in the US and beyond. Crawford Memorial Scholarship In memory of Scott Mason’s partner of 30 years, David, the David M. Crawford Memorial Scholarship through Equity Foundation honors David’s work in the LGBT community and Portland State University. Crawford Memorial Scholarship here. 9.Deceased or Disabled Public Safety Officer Grant Program Administered through the Office of Student Access and Completion and funded through the Oregon Opportunity Grant Program, the Deceased or Disabled Public Safety Officer Scholarships aim to fund the expense of attending a public or private non-profit college for financial dependents of a public safety officer in the state of Oregon, who was disabled or killed in the line of duty. Students must be planning to attend full-time, and are Oregon residents. Applicants must be Oregon residents and graduating seniors, with a GPA of 2.75 or higher and must have plans to attend a four-year Oregon college or university. Douglas County Community Scholarship Annually, the Douglas Community Foundation selects students for scholarships who are pursuing a graduate or undergrad degree for up to $1,000 each to Douglas County High School students who are currently enrolled in a full-time Oregon college with a major in biology, medical technology, nursing, physical assistant, or public health. Goodenough Scholarship Committee selects graduating students from Salem area public and private high schools who have been chosen by three faculty members. The criteria are based on academic excellence and financial need. Recipients receive a four-year scholarship of $1000-2000 per academic year. It was established by Eugene to promote art studies. Students must also attend a community college, university, or vocational school on a full-time basis. Qualified applicants must be attending college in Oregon, be enrolled as a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th-year full-time student in an associate’s degree or bachelor’s program and have a 3.2 GPA. Wells Scholarship is open to graduating seniors attending an Oregon public high school, who have a GPA of 3.5 or higher, are active participants in extracurricular and community-related activities, and have plans to major in education or engineering.
